40 Years of Summer fun with a French accent!

WHAT & WHERE: 40th Anniversary Celebration on Canoe Island
Join us on Canoe Island, Sunday afternoon, August 30, to celebrate 40
years of Canoe Island French Camp. Take a stroll down Memory Lane by
looking through L'Observateurs and scrapbooks dating back to 1969,
watch the historic slideshow featuring the best photos from the past 40
years. Meet our board members and staff while relaxing by the pool for
an afternoon barbecue. Swim, play tennis, or go for a kayak around the
island. Our Canoe Island French Camp private label 40th Anniversary
Chardonnay and Cab-Merlot-Malbec blend from Lopez Vineyards will be
available for sale by the bottle or glass.
WHEN: Noon to 7 pm, Sunday, August 30
COST: $20 per person, $10 for ages 3-5, FREE for 2 and under.
Fee
includes round trip transportation from the Orcas ferry landing to
Canoe Island, an afternoon barbecue and all activities. For a more
relaxed weekend, come Saturday for the weekend, or for the full 4-day
Family Camp, Saturday-Tuesday, August 29-September 1. See website
for details. Overnight accommodations are limited, so please book in
advance. Chef David Amar from France will be preparing gourmet French
meals for the weekend. Contact us for more information about the event,
transportation options and information on places to stay on Orcas
Island.
TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS:
• Fly Kenmore Air
in one hour from Lake Union in Seattle (shuttle from SeaTac Airport)
right to Lopez Island where our camp boat will meet you. We can send
you a $20 off coupon for a round trip.
• Board the Island Express from Anacortes right to Canoe Island for a one-hour trip.
• Take the Washington State Ferry from Anacortes to Orcas Island.

Salut!
Remember the fun you had on Canoe Island this past summer? Swimming in
the pool, playing Capture the Flag, dressing up on Theme Day, and
taking part in fencing, archery, theater, art, sailing, kayaking,
snorkeling and rock climbing. And the sumptuous food at the Bon Voyage
Banquet?
It’s not too early to get next summer’s camp dates on your calendar.
You can register for 2010 camp sessions right now. On-line and mail-in
registration for summer sessions and family camps are ready to go. If
you are a past camper, you can register easily and update your
information on our website. Email us if you need your user name and
password.
Financial assistance is available.

Open House, Free
Saturday, June 19
Everyone is welcome!
A
chance for families and friends to tour the island and meet the staff.
Campers attending Session 1 may stay over with full supervision and
special activities. A light buffet will be served and the pool and
tennis court will be open. Contact us for more information.

 |  | Session 1, Les Voyageurs
Sunday, June 20-Friday, July 9
Ages 10-16
Sailing, kayaking and hiking adventures to neighboring
islands, July 4th parade in Friday Harbor, wilderness and survival
skills as well as all your favorite camp activities.

 |  | Session 2, La Révolution
Française
Sunday, July 11-Friday, July 23
Ages 9-16
Storm the Bastille and demand your rights as you
re-enact the revolution. French cuisine, art, theater, fencing and
outdoor sports are all part of this session.

 |  | Session 3, Le Monde Francophone
Sunday, July 25-Friday August 13
Ages 10-16
Polynesia, Africa, the Caribbean, Louisiana and Arcadia
– explore the food and culture of other places where French is spoken.
Sports competitions and a World’s Fair highlight the theme, along with
your favorite activities.

Sunday, August 15-Friday, August 27
Ages 9-16
Celebrate chivalry, knights, kings, queens, and dragons. Jousting, fencing, and our trébuchet will bring the Middle Ages to life and all your favorite camp activities will take place.
